Yesterday afternoon, the Faith in Place Action Fund was pleased to welcome clergy and community leaders along with Reps. Harper, Mitchell, Slaughter, & Welch, and Kelly Evans on behalf of Sen. Hutchinson, to discuss next steps for enacting an environmental justice agenda in Illinois.
We highlighted the importance of protecting the Renewable Energy Resources Fund (RERF) by “any greens necessary” as a first step in connecting the dots between environmentalism, mass incarceration, and a just economy.
We will be gathering again in August to take the next steps to implement an environmental justice agenda in Illinois, as outlined in HR234 and SR353. We know that summer schedules and previous commitments prevented some from joining us today. We hope that even more legislators and clergy will be able to join us in the future for this important ongoing conversation and network of support.
