We have a win to celebrate—and a bigger fight ahead.
The WIN!
Thanks to thousands of rapid emails and calls, the House budget draft dropped the “nonprofit killer” that would have let the executive branch strip nonprofits of their tax-exempt status with the stroke of a pen. That’s democracy in action! (Read about it here.)
The Fight Ahead!
This is still a very, very bad bill with disastrous consequences for the climate and for people who are hoping to upgrade their homes, cars, and livelihoods to more energy-efficient and affordable options.
This budget bill (in addition to other cruel cuts) would roll back clean energy investments from the Inflation Reduction Act, which could:
Produce a greater than 70% decline in domestic clean energy through 2035
Jeopardize $522 billion in factory and project investment already on the books
Hike household power bills.
At a time when people are already paying too much for their electricity as we brace for summer heat waves, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are attempting to make drastic cuts to programs we all rely on and that keep us safe, all to pay for more tax breaks for billionaires and corporate polluters.
What you can do!
